Andrew advises a range of UK and international businesses on defined benefit pension issues including pension scheme funding, risk reduction exercises, pension benefit design, merger and acquisition (M&A) transactions, and accounting disclosures.

Throughout Andrew’s illustrious career, he has worked at board level with FTSE100 (or equivalent) organisations, becoming a trusted adviser to major multinationals. He has provided funding and related advice to clients across a range of scheme sizes and industries – the largest being a client in the financial services sector with UK pension scheme assets of circa £10 billion.

He has developed an innovative liability management strategy and provided ongoing funding advice to an international client with a £3 billion UK pension scheme and has provided extensive corporate M&A advice and due diligence to international businesses investing in the UK – the largest being an acquisition of a major UK automotive business with extensive pension obligations (circa £6 billion). He also orchestrated a scheme re-design for a major FMCG business involving its UK workforce (a scheme of circa £7 billion).

Andrew has over 35 years of industry experience which has included extensive interaction with government and related agencies though various industry roles – for example, the Department for Work and Pensions, the Pensions Regulator and the Pension Protection Fund. An esteemed figure, he chaired both the Association of Consulting Actuaries and the International Association of Consulting Actuaries from 2012 to 2014. He was also Chair of the Defined Ambition Industry Working Group, which was established by Sir Steve Webb in 2012.

Before joining Barnett Waddingham in 2011, Andrew worked at Mercer for 27 years where he was a senior and worldwide partner. He became senior partner at Barnett Waddingham in 2020.
